Lost to the Sea
Lost to the Sea - A poem by The Brick
I met this mother the other day
she said she lost her son but it was all okay
it all started at the age of three
during a long boat trip on the big blue sea
she watched him lean on the rail
while gusts of wind blew the sail
and she lost her son to the sea
when he turned five
she watched him dive
off the rock on the count of three
she knew it then but couldn’t comprehend
that she had lost her son to the sea
at the age of nine the boy wanted to fly
so she gave him fins and a plane
but what she couldn’t explain as she talked to me
was that she had lost her son to the sea
he had trouble at school trying to be cool
so he got lost in the sea
as he got older he would come home and hold her
and then escape to the sea
He got a job but just felt robbed
This wasn’t who he wanted to be
But he worked real hard, punched the card
And spent all is extra time in the sea
she went up to his room one morning
to realize that he was gone
he had left at dawn and then went on
to go get lost in the sea
that afternoon his mom found the letter
that he left by the trunk of a tree
it said “money is fine but the ocean is better,
I am going to get lost in the sea
